Current and Future Projects

Dominican Republic

This page shows some of the projects we are working on.  As much as we try, we hope to not have too many things on this page at one time.  We like to work on one project, complete it, and then move on to the next project. But God has other ideas and directs us to more projects to work on. We appreciate teams and donors who help us complete our projects.  We hope as you look over this page, you will catch the vision and find a way to help.

Luz y Vida Church

El Toro

El Toro is a very rural agricultural community located about thirty minutes east of Santo Domingo.  About 10 years ago, HHU was involved in constructing a school building next to the church.  The school is doing well.  The church, however, needed a new roof.  The old metal roof was no longer doing the job.  A decision was made to replace the roof with a concrete one.  Besides keeping the church dry, it will also allow the building to be used as a hurricane shelter.  Construction began in 2021, using local money.  When the money ran out, the project stopped.  With HHU's help, the project resumed in March 2022 with hopes it will be completed before the start of the rainy season in June.

The youth group was growing and they needed a place for them to meet.  The church had an open area behind the church.  The church began raising funds in this very poor community.  When their fundraising stalled out, they came to HHU and asked for help.  Construction began in March 2022.  It is expected to be ready to use in a couple of months.

Elias Piña

This church was built by a mission team around 2010.  At the time, it was a small church plant. The church has continued to grow as it reached out to people in the neighborhood.  The sanctuary is full and overflowing whenever they have services. They need more space.  The church was built with a metal roof that now needs to be replaced.  Leadership has decided they would like to address both issues, first by expanding the back wall of the sanctuary, and second, by installing a concrete roof.  This is phase one.  Lord willing, they would like to do a second phase of constructing a second floor to add space for classrooms and the youth group. HHU has committed to helping them with the phase one project.  We are in the fundraising phase right now.  Construction will begin when at least half of the money has been raised.

We have several churches talking to us about possible future projects.  Please check back often to view an updated list.
